Five musicians from South Devon bring their knowledge and experience of diverse musical traditions to form the collective sound of Compagnie Giulia and have been delighting their audiences since their debut in April 2006.
While their collective interest in Medieval music was the focus for the intial period they are adding a great variety of music from different traditions.
Julia Thomas (voice, bagpipe, whistle, and concertina) has fostered a strong interest in folk and medieval music for over twenty five years. Besides the traditional tunes that Compagnie play, Julia has composed a number of songs based upon medieval text. click here for more about Julia
Simon Cassell (voice, saz and middle eastern percussion) plays intricate rhythms from Middle Eastern tradition on a variety of drums. He also plays the Turkish instrument the saz and sings in Turkish. click here for more about Simon
Nick Millington (bouzouki) has played the bouzouki for fifteen years and brings a vast experience of the very unusual music from the ancient and modern Greek Culture.The bouzouki has a delicate distinctive sound that complements the other instruments click here for more about Nick
Mike Edwards (bass viol) has an incredible large expereince of all types of music from classical to rock, jazz to baroque and brings this experience and the vital sound of the viol to the ensemble.

Howard Frey (mandolin and percussion) has played folk and early music for over twenty five years. His enquiry into the role of the mandolin in the group is to find the balance between a robust folk like sound to the more delicate love songs. click here for more about Howard
